Eurovision has ultimately turned into a freak parade, with male-looking men and female-looking women being a rare occurrence for this eerie annual jamboree.
Even if you are the most bizarre freak bordering on outlandish, it is still par for the course when it comes to modern Eurovision. However, this year’s Irish contestant, a ‘non-binary witch’ known by the stage name Bambie Thug, somehow managed to become a head-turner. Her performance was bristling with occult and satanic symbols and looked more like a live-streamed séance.
The musician is a self-described ‘ouija popstar’, where ‘ouija’ stands for a spirit séance board you may have come across in horror films. Bambie Thug’s preferred pronouns are they/them/their, and they refer to themselves as a practitioner of ‘neopagan blood magic’. Sure enough, these allusions are nothing new for the Western pop music scene, except, if anything, it used to exhibit more of a coming-of-age rebelliousness.
Today, though, a public display of satanic practices earns you the bragging rights and makes you a successful social climber, which marks a seismic cultural shift. There are several reasons behindit.
First, the kind of progressives who celebrate pregnant men and bearded women as an imperative norm jump at every opportunity to give the finger to their conservative and often religious opposition.
On the one hand, they are self-avowed atheists, but on the other, they view Satan as an important mythical symbol that signifies their rebellion against the ‘oppression’ coming from the culture rooted in the worshipping of Christian God. The woke ideology encourages the public to ‘awake’ to the injustices and the oppressive nature of the civilisation as created by white heterosexual males. And since Christianity is at the core of this civilisation, a brazen public take on what is traditionally viewed as the ultimate evil seems only natural to them.
Second, showbiz representatives are compelled to constantly shock and outrage the public to eschew oblivion. But the catch is, they have to be continuously raising the bar of the audacious brashness of their antics to keep up with the competition and avoid the clichéd repetition of the already overused deviations. Satanism as a commercial ruse comes in handy when there is this constant need for a fresh dose of skylarking.
Third, we have been witnessing an overall decline in rationality against the rise in pseudo-religiosity. Inveterate atheists like Richard Dawkins have much to do with the Christian legacy. They believe in the power of truth and praise critical inquiry into what is real and what is not. They seek to swear by the truth they have discovered. An old-school atheist like Richard Dawkins would never play leapfrog inside a painted pentagram.
In today’s world, truth is a largely irrelevant concept, whereas every religion finds instrumental use. Christianity flagrantly conflicts the agenda promoted by the Western media elites. Okay, they have no problem hyping up the neopagan witchcraft. In doing so, they do not pledge to strike a deal with Satan because that is not something they truly believe in. No, it is just consistent withtheir goals.
On the other hand, Christianity can, too, be used as a propaganda tool and a manipulation tactic whenever it serves someone’s hot-button agenda.
But if a Christian worldview is taken in earnest and one assumes the reality of God and His opponent, they will find out that Satan has my tricks up his sleeve. It really helps that everyone believes that everyone but them is prone to being tricked. However, Satan is quite inventive to come up with the kind of custom bait a person will take and use it to lure the victim into committing some really grave and unrepented sins.
The comprehension of the reality of evil and the recklessness of those eager to poke the devil should not be the reason for someone to become smug. Far from it, once you have realised that much, you have to be careful and maintain the sobriety of mind when making the decisions you do. As St. Peter puts it, ‘Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour’ (1 Pet. 5:8).
